Flat Roof Repair Paint
Introduction to Flat Roof Repair Paint
Adding certain types of paint to the roof can have a number of benefits. Water seeps through roofs and so often causes a great deal of damage and can cost a great deal to repair. This is not just through the fact that the repairs will need to be done but also damage could be done to the structure of the house or to the contents.
When you have a leak you will soon know about it and if you have any sense will deal with is straight away. This is not the sort of thing that will just stop or go away on its own, and if anything it will spread.
The Type of Flat Roof Repair Paint
Roof sealer will help to keep the rain out of the house and one of the best aspects of it is the fact that it works right away. There is a need to prepare the area before you paint it but once done the benefits will be obvious and you will be glad you did it. Roof sealant is not a particularly cheap product when you compare it to ordinary paint but it does a good job and can save you a lot of money in the long run. A 5kg tin will cost you in the region of £50 but could save you so much more.
How does Flat Roof Repair Paint Work?
When you paint the roof the paint mixes with the sealer and creates a stronger seal against the rain. It makes your roof waterproof immediately and even though it is not recommended to carry out this sort of work while it is raining if you have to do it the rain will not affect the effectiveness of the paint. The price can be held down a little as there is only the need to use one coat. This not only saves money but means you will have to spend a lot less time working on the job. As it does not need a primer this also brings about a saving.
It may be that this is not the only thing that needs to be done to keep the roof watertight but it will be a step in the right direction. It is important to make sure that water is not coming through the roof as even the smallest amount can lead to major problems. Once this is done the roof is protected for some time. It will not last forever though and at some stage you will have to redo it. This will be done in much the same way as you would repaint a room. Paint stripper can be used to remove the old layer and before you start to repaint you must make sure that all the old flaking bits have been removed.
Some makes of paint may need you to use primer before you start but that will depend on the brand and will be clearly marked on the tin. Paint as you would indoors until the original surface cannot be seen underneath. This way you will know you are doing the best you can to protect your roof.
